I enjoy traveling and experiencing new destinations, unknown cultures. But for someone who loves traveling, one challenge constantly overshadowed my plans: budgeting and saving up for trips. Then one day, I wondered, "What if there was a way for travelers to save bit by bit for their trips without giving up on their dreams?"

That thought sparked an idea—a simple feature where people could choose their dream trip, set a savings goal, and work toward it over time. It felt like the perfect way to make travel dreams a reality, one step at a time.


Why I choose MakeMyTrip?


MakeMyTrip is one of India’s leading online travel platforms, offering a one-stop solution for all travel needs. The app's integration of rewards programs, flexible payment options, and customer support makes it a trusted companion for millions of travelers.

Problem statement

The travel planning process often involves long-term saving and financial considerations. Many individuals struggle to efficiently save for their dream vacations due to a lack of structured savings plans, budgeting difficulties, and insufficient motivation and guidance.

Solution

A "Save Now, Book Later" feature aims to address this by integrating a budgeting tool & rewards program into the app, enabling users to save incrementally and plan trips efficiently without financial stress.

Design Process

The design process method that I used on this project is Design Thinking, which consists of the following steps:

Empathize

  • I conducted a Google survey and conducted three user interviews to gain insights into their requirements and challenges.

  • Objective was to Understand user behaviour, pain points, and expectations when planning and saving for vacations.

Findings from the survey & interviews:

  • Most individuals prefer making holiday plans well ahead of time.

  • Saving for a vacation can be tough due to budgeting issues and financial limitations.

  • The majority of people utilize a dedicated savings account to keep their savings.

  • More than 50% users prefer online travel booking platforms.

User Persona:

Define

Understanding the user's perspective through Empathize stage helped me to understand user's pain points.


Key Problems are :

  • Lack of an integrated, user-friendly saving mechanism in travel apps.

  • Absence of Motivation and encouragement to stay on track toward their goal.

  • Security measures to protect financial information.

  • Need for guidance on estimated budget & effective saving plan

Ideate

Generating ideas for incorporating features that effectively resolve user’s pain points.

Aa step-by-step User flow to outline the journey users will take to set and track their savings goals.

Conclusion

The "Save Now, Book Later" feature integrates financial planning with travel aspirations, simplifying the journey from saving to booking. By addressing pain points like fragmented savings and lack of motivation, the feature enhances user experience and builds brand loyalty.
